Success Principles
Success is the progressive realization of a worthwhile dream
I will be giving you a simple overview of the success principles needed to become a financial success, specifically related to business ownership. I’m not saying that by becoming a financial success, you are considered to be successful. But I do believe when you become financially independent, you will achieve a new level of living. You’ll be able to buy what you want instead of what you can afford, you’ll be able to give to your favorite charities, and you’ll be able to help your friends and family when they need it. Money will not make you happy, but neither will poverty.

“Getting rich is a result of doing things in a certain way” Wallace Wattles author of The Science of Getting Rich” Get your free copy of The Science of Getting Rich
Now if getting rich is the result of doing things in a certain way then anyone who can do things in that way will get rich. If you do what they do you will have what they have, so the only thing you need to know is what the wealthy people are doing. More importantly, how successful people think, because our results our determined by our actions and we choose our actions based on our thoughts.
There are four parts to becoming successful: The dream, your mindset, your people skills, and your conation. If you have a dream then take action with the correct mindset, good people skills and conation and you will then be progressing toward your dreams. You will soon Liv It
Dream/Goal
Most people spend more time planning for a vacation than they spend planning their life. If your life is worth living it’s worth planning. Everything starts with a dream, and then it turns into a wish or a goal. The dream that turns into a goal is the one you write down and put a date on. What would you do if you knew you could not fail? You choose to be successful one day at a time. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Take a step today toward living your dreams. Increase your dream daily and spend the rest of your life chasing it
Vision – You must form a clear and definite mental picture of what you want. Make a list of everything you want to have and do in life, and prioritize which dreams you will achieve first. Create a vision of your perfect day and your perfect life then chase that vision until it is a reality. Where there is no vision people parish
Action–There is an old saying that “a thousand wishes won’t fill a bucket with fishes.” It takes action you need to have the discipline to get up early, the knowledge of necessary, the belief you can do it, and the tenacity to stick to it until you succeed. Even if you are on the right path you’ll get run over if you just sit there.
Accountability– One of the most underestimated and yet highly important parts of success. Many people have mentors that help with accountability or a coach, a teacher, or a personal trainer. Most people will do more for someone else than they’ll do for themselves. If you want to start exercising you will always do better if you have a friend holding you accountable on a weekly or daily basis.
Mindset
Ralph Waldo Emerson said that “A man is what he thinks about all day long”. So if we become what we think about then we need to learn how successful people think so that we can become financially successful. The three major areas we need to focus on are the people we associate with, our attitude and our belief.
The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter there lives by altering their attitudes of mind – William James
Association– You will become like the books you read and the people you associate with. Your income will be the average of the 5 people you hang around with most. If you don’t know any wealthy people then the next best thing to do is read the books they have written or listen to any audio from a successful person. If you learn what they know and do what they do you will have what they have.
Attitude– big changes start with little choices. Abraham Lincoln said “It has been my observation that people are just about as happy as they make up there minds to be”. If you want to see where you’re going then listen to what you’re thinking. What we see depends mainly on what we look for so make sure that you are looking for success.
Belief – Abraham Maslow once asked his class “who among them expected to accomplish great things” and nobody raised their hands. Maslow then retorted “Well, if not you, then who?” There are many people who have overcome huge obstacles to achieve greatness. Everyone struggles with their self-image so spend the time to study successful people and you will find that if they can do it then you can to. There are millions of millionaires. Do you think that all of them are smarter than you? I don’t think so.
People Skills
Your skill with people determines your quality of life. You have to deal with people in most everything you do, so the more you understand them the happier you will be.
Communication– In order to communicate properly we need to learn about human nature. There are many things to learn like listening skills, tact, praise, and non-verbal communication . People don’t do things to hurt us they do things to help themselves. Spending time studying personality styles helped me to understand how different people communicate, and how I could say the same thing in a different way so that people would understand what I was trying to communicate.
Leadership– John Maxwell says that “the true measure of leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less”. If you are a good manager you can keep an organization moving in the same direction. If you want to move people to a new direction you need influence. Colin Powell said “you have achieved excellence as a leader when people will follow you everywhere if only out of curiosity”.
Teamwork – “If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time” The Five Dysfunctions of a Team
Conation
The dictionary definition of conation is the part of mental life having to do with striving, including desire and volition. I believe conation is the single most important indicator of success and the definition that I would like to use is found in the book Self Made in America, by John McCormack.
“Simply put, conation is the will to succeed, the quest for success, the attitude that to stop me you’ll have to kill me, that elusive fire in the belly that manifests itself in drive, enthusiasm, excitement, and single-mindedness in pursuit of a goal - any goal. All consistently successful people have it. Many well-educated, intelligent, endearing, and presentable people don’t have it.”
Will Smith said in an interview “I consider myself to have average talent. What I have that others do not, is a sick obsessive animal drive.” Will Smith has conation and that is the most important part of his success.
Focus – Focus is being able to give up the good opportunities for the best. If you’re not moving toward your dream you’re moving away from it. Choose the one dream that you want to achieve and do something daily that moves you closer. The secret to your success is found in your daily routine.
Discipline– Larry Bird said “the thing that separates the winners from the losers, the stars, from the superstars, is self discipline.” John McCormack says that self-discipline is the willingness to perform the acts that are beneficial to us that – for whatever reason – we don’t want to perform.
Perseverance– Success is hanging on after others have let go, and doing whatever it takes to achieve your goals. Walt Disney was turned down by 302 banks before he found one that believed in his idea. "Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all." Dale Carnegie
Write down all your dreams, and prioritize them. Focus on what you want, create an action plan and learn what you need to know to accomplish your goals. Believe that your dreams will come true, because there are many people with less than you who have achieved great success. Learn to improve your people skills and most importantly have conation. Never give up on your dreams.
