The network marketing and direct sales industry is on of the fastest growing business models in the world. Although many people have a negative reaction to network marketing it is one of the best business models every to create leverage. Also know as multi-level marketing (MLM) it is a business distribution model that allows a company to market their products directly to consumers by means of relationships, referral, and direct selling.

This distributor builds his buisness by developing an organization by either building an active customer base, who buy direct from the parent company and / or by recruiting other independent distributors who also build a customer base

This arrangement is similar to franchise arrangements where royalties are paid from the sales of individual franchise operations to the franchisor as well as to an area or region manager. Commissions are paid to multi-level marketing distributors according to the company’s compensation plan. There can be multiple levels of people receiving royalties from one person's sales.

I believe part of the controversy surounding network marketing is that it is so easy and inexpensive for a person to start a business that they do not take it as seriously as a traditional business. Some people think that network marketing is a “pyramid scheme” , but if you think about it, a traditional corporation is more like a pyramid with one person, the CEO at the top making most of the money and all the workers are underneath him making much less money.

If you don’t like network marketing then I guess you also have a problem with a real estate company where after you get your real estate license, you start working for a real estate broker and every sale you make that broker takes a piece of your commision. Or think of a franchise where after you buy the franchise, the company will train to run your business the way that is proven to work. Then even afer you have already paid them a substantial amount of money, you still have to pay a commision every month based on your sales.

There are many traditional businesses that operate like network marketing companies do. There is a ton of money to be made in this industry if you choose a good company to become a distributor with. The biggest downfall I see with this network marketing is that most distributors aren’t good marketers. All they do is call every person they know and show them some sort of compensation plan to see if they want to join them. Then many times if there friends say now they quit there business. Now if I become a car salesmen and and try to make a ton of money selling cars only to the people I know, I will go broke very fast. Let me explain it this way lets say that you become an insurance saleman. One of the first things they will teach you to do is let all your family and friends know that you are now an insurance agent and that you would apreciate their business. This sounds a lot like network marketing the only difference is that the insurance agent doesn’t stop at this point. What they do next is create an entire marketing system to find people who are interested in there product. The best network marketing companies have created profetional marketing systems that don’t tell you that you need to simply talk to your friends.
